Fire safety audits provide a very useful ‘dry run’ prior to a formal inspection by a Fire Service inspector, but without the risk of enforcement orders or threat of prosecution. They follow the same process, but with a strong emphasis on identification and rectification.
Typically, we will begin by reviewing your administrative procedures, policies and record keeping before conducting a mock inspection of your premises. We will then provide you with a written report detailing the current fire safety status of the building or buildings, prescribed legal requirements, any shortcomings in current fire safety management procedures, best practice guidelines regarding fire safety, and recommended action to achieve legal compliance. Fire safety audits are an inspection of residential or non-residential buildings to determine the management of the property with regards to fire safety. These assessments are usually planned and include examinations of relevant documentation. Sometimes a discussion with staff about fire safety will occur to determine their knowledge of the matter.

Protect your premises by arranging regular fire safety and equipment audits by the qualified professionals at CDG, based in London. As a business owner, it is your statutory duty to ensure that your premises fully comply with fire safety norms.

The audit focuses on the key aspects of managing fire safety within the workplace and offers a structured path for continual improvement towards best practice status. Fire Safety Audit in India also includes compliance check of statutory requirements like Acts, Rules and NBC. Ensuring life safety is the most essential aspect of all building codes. In India, the 2005 version of the National Building Code (NBC) is representing the present state of knowledge on various aspects of building construction, which is followed by all most all parts of the country. The NBC as a whole is the basic model code for all other codes in the country and by and large most of the states and local bodies in India have adopted many of the code provisions in their own building regulations. The Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Rules, 2009, framed under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Act, 2006, are mostly based on NBC Part 4. According to section 3 of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, the developer, owner, occupier or whatever name called, shall comply with all the fire and safety measures, adhering to the National Building Code of India, 2005, and as amended from time to time, failing which, it shall be treated as a violation of the said Act. It means that the onus of maintaining and documenting the fire safety installations in a building is the responsibility of the building owner or occupier.
Further, as per section 10 of the said Act, no person other than a “Licensed Agency” shall carry out the work of providing fire prevention and life safety measures or performing such other related activities required to be carried out in any place or building or part therefore; provided that, if the Chief Fire Officer is satisfied that, for any reason to be recorded in writing, the owner or occupier is not able to carry out the fire prevention and fire safety measures in any such place or building or part thereof through a “Licensed Agency”, he may authorize any person or persons he thinks fit to carry out such work, and any work carried out by such authorized person or persons shall be deemed to be carried out by a “Licensed Agency”. The magnitude of the problem can be reduced only when the structures are designed, constructed, equipped, maintained and operated with a view to save the life and property of its occupants. Therefore, any structure or building should be erected only after meeting the basic infrastructure needed to protect them from fire and explosion, and even to withstand natural calamities like earthquake, lightening, etc.
NBC recommends for periodical fire safety inspection by the key personnel of the occupants of the building. to ensure fire safety standards. In case of industrial buildings the statutory authorities insist for fire safety audits by external agencies depending on the type of activity and nature of materials handled in the buildings.
